The Mattie and Hayward J. Benson, Jr. and Benson Family Scholarship
The Mattie and Hayward J. Benson, Jr. and Benson Family Scholarship Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward will award two (2) annual scholarships that will support two (2) first-generation freshman students attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
Applicants must:
Be a United States-born African American high school graduate.
Have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.
Demonstrate academic, leadership and scholastic achievements, with a preference for first-generation college students.
Be a student from Broward County (Florida) pursuing a 4-year bachelor’s degree, with a preference for Education, Music/Art, Public Administration, or Law majors.
Be accepted to and attend Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida.
The recommended scholarship recipient(s) will be eligible to receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship award, which may be a renewable $1,000 scholarship award (limited to 4 years or eight semesters, including the initial award, provided that the student maintains a full-time student in good standing).
Students who do not meet the 3.0 GPA or change their major after receiving the initial award must obtain written approval from the Grantor to renew the scholarship.
